Shih-Poos have been a popular breed for the last 10 to 20 years, though they may have been around for longer.

History

The Shih-Poo is a mix of the Shih Tzu and Poodle breeds. This crossbreed is smart, playful, and affectionate. Along with sporting a cute, alert expression, it has a sturdy body and a courageous bark despite its size. Because of this, the Shih-Poo can be an excellent guard dog.

Behavior

  • Temperament

Shih-Poo puppies are intelligent, fun-loving, and sociable. Generally, this crossbreed inherits the guard-like instincts of its Shih Tzu's parent, making vigilant watchdogs. Shih-Poos can be stubborn and yappy, so special training may be needed to moderate these behaviors. They are also better suited in homes with older children.
